Foods I discovered in Jordan





Sumac
It's a red spice that has a lemony taste. 
Sumac is a great seasoning for salads and it's used in all kinds of Jordanian dishes.

It's a small green sour plum. That can be found easily during Summer months.

These crispy and watery almonds are eaten raw with the shell.
The Jordanian people eat them with salt and olive oil.

Labaneh
Sour yogurt used for sandwiches with mortadella, also in salty dishes or just topped with olive oil to dip the arabic flat bread.
It is a usual food for breakfast.

Zaatar
It's a blend of spices and herbs. 
In Jordan, the most common blend is thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, toasted wheat and salt
Normally, eaten by dipping a piece of the flat arabic bread in olive oil and then in this blend. 
It can, also be, found in bakeries as Zaatar Mankeesh, that is a flat bread dough spread with zaatar and oil and cooked in the oven. 
There's more options, like: zaatar and melted cheese sandwich; or labneh topped with olive oil and zaatar, to dip the arabic bread, etc.

It is a common food for breakfast, in Jordan.

Dried goat's yogurt. Used, mainly, in the national dish of Jordan - Mansaf.

The Jordanian people stuff these leaves with a mixture of rice, herbs, minced vegetables, meat and boil them. 
This dish is called Yalanji and it can be vegetarian or with meat.

It has a lighter colour and doesn't taste like the common coffee. Normally, has cardamom added. It's served in small cups, during special occasions, like: the celebration of the end of Ramadan (Eid).
