Dogs were, among, the first animals to be domesticated and are one of the favorite pets worldwide.
In muslim countries, like Jordan, hardly can be found a dog as a pet. At the most, as herding dog or house guardians.
Muslims are respecting the Sunnah and the Hadith:
"Muslim (2978) narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah said: " Whoever keeps a dog that is not for hunting, herding livestock or farming, two qiraats will be deducted from his reward every day."
Sahih al- Bukhari (3322 - Hadith 128) narrated from Abu Talha that the Prophet said: " The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image."
In, Jordan there are animal rescue centres, where people can adopt dogs and veterinary services that include dogs.
However, they are normally kept outside for guarding purposes. Of course, there are exceptions.
Dogs are seen, by the Jordanians, in general, as dangerous and dirty animals.
In Jordan, it is not usual to see stray dogs. But many, many stray cats that were abandoned, by the owners, when they grew older.
Jordanian people, normally, just keep them while they are small kittens.
And as cats are a more acceptable pet, in Jordan, the streets of Jordan are the home of "tons" of stray cats, wandering around the open litter bins.
