What to visit in Jordan - Petra

The Treasury

Petra, located in the south of Jordan, is considered one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world and it's Jordan most visited tourist attraction.

Petra is now ruins of a city that was carved into rocks by the Nabatean civilization. It was the most important city of the Nabateans kingdom and the center of the trading routes.

Despite the destruction made by earthquakes and others, there are many relatively well -preserved structures as: theater, amphitheater, temple, tomb caves, paths, caves- houses, monastery, and the
colonnaded street.

Summer: 6am - 6:30pm

Entrance Fees
The ticket is 50JD for non- Jordanians.
For the ones who visit Petra during the first day of the arrival to Jordan the ticket is 90JD. 40JD will be returned, but I don't know the procedure.
Some foreign say if you stay overnight in a hotel the price drops to 50JD.

Best time to go
The best time of the year to go is early Spring and late Autumn. It's sunny but not so much hot.
However, sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water are always advised.
Don't bring heavy backpacks with you if you want to walk around or hike.

I would avoid the arabic weekends - Fridays and Saturdays - as it's normally more crowed.
