Social Security System in Jordan



A monthly deduction is taken from the salaries of all employees in Jordan. So these employees have granted access to Social Security benefits. 


In the private sector, the worker pays 7,5% of the monthly salary to the social security system and the employer pays 14,25%.

The public workers pay 6,5% and the public agencies 13%.


The workers will contribute to the social security system that will help them later, when they most need.
The Social security covers the following insurances:
  1. Old-age retirement
  2. Disability
  3. Work injuries
  4. Death
  5. Temporary sickness
  6. Maternity
  7. Unemployment

1 - The retirement age is 60 years for male and 55 years old for female contributors. The pension will depend on their contributions, no more than 75% of the salary. 
If the retired person has dependents, the pension will be increased by 10% for the first dependent, 5% for second, till maximum 20%. 


2 and 3 - The work injuries pension includes the transportation to the hospital, the medical treatment and the full payment of the salary, while in rehabilitation. 


The worker should have at least 60 months of contributions and 36 consecutive to have this benefits.


If the worker dies due to the injury, a pension of 75% of the salary plus additional 40JD will be paid to the family. The funeral expenses will have a coverage of 500JD.


If the worker is affected by a permanent disability, will receive a pension of 75% of the salary. 


4 - The natural death pension is attributed to contributors that were still actively contributing to the social security system.
The pension should be 50% of the salary plus 1% per each year of contribution, plus 40JD. The funeral expenses should be covered in 500JD.

5 - Every employee has the right to 14 days per year, of sick leave, with full pay, when required by a medical report. If the employee is hospitalized the leave can be extended more 14 days with full pay. If the worker needs to stay in home will receive half pay.

6 - Female workers have the right to take in total 2 months and 2 weeks for maternity leave with full pay. The employees within 1 year of delivery have the right to benefit of 1 hour per day to take care of the newborn needs.

7 - The social security law covers 3 months of unemployment if the contributor have less than 7,5 years of deductions and 6 months if more than 7,5 years. 
The 1st month will be paid 75% of the salary,  65% for the 2nd month, 55% for the 3rd month and 45% for the 4th, 5th and 6th months. 
The maximum limit is 500JD per month.
